Oscillatory Potentials in Diabetic Retina without Retinopathy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Purpose: To study recordings of oscillatory potentials (OPs) of the electroretinogram (ERG) in diabetic eyes that have no visible fundus alterations, to ascertain whether changes in sensitivity are evident when compared with recordings from age-matched controls. Methods: OPs of the ERG were measured from 68 eyes of 34 patients with diabetes without retinopathy and from 30 eyes of 15 normal subjects. Results: A reduction in the amplitude of each oscillatory potential, as well as delayed implicit time of each oscillatory potential peak could be found in diabetic patients without retinopathy although not all significant. Decrease in the amplitude of OP1 and summed OP (OP-sum) and also delayed the implicit time of OP1 were seen between diabetic patients with no observable diabetic retinopathy. Conclusion: Patients with diabetes without retinopathy show prolonged latencies in OPs recordings and decreased in amplitudes of OP-1 and OP-sum. This indicates an alteration in inner retinal sensitivity or ischemic change of overall retinal layer that can be explained by an impaired rodcone interaction.

The Intra-Ocular Pressure of Type 2 Diabetic Patients Comparison in Diabetic Retinopathy Grades
Objective: Retinopathy is a microvascular complication of diabetes in the retina. It is hypothesized the aqueous flow decrease in patients with retinopathy which effects the Intra-ocular pressure (IOP). The purpose of this study is to determine whether a significant correlation exists between IOP and diabetic retinopathy grades. Materials and Methods: Our study is analytic cross sectional. Abo...
متن کاملLocal multifocal oscillatory potential abnormalities in diabetes and early diabetic retinopathy.
PURPOSE To study retinal dysfunction in diabetes and early nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR) using a new method to analyze local multifocal electroretinogram oscillatory potentials (mfOPs). METHODS One eye of each of 26 normal subjects, 16 diabetic subjects without retinopathy (NoR), and 16 diabetic subjects with early NPDR was examined. Slow-flash multifocal electroretinograms (sf...
متن کاملA Chronic Implant to Record Electroretinogram, Visual Evoked Potentials and Oscillatory Potentials in Awake, Freely Moving Rats for Pharmacological Studies
Electroretinogram (ERG), widely used to study the pharmacological effects of drugs in animal models (e.g., diabetic retinopathy), is usually recorded in anesthetized rats. We report here a novel simple method to obtain chronic implantation of electrodes for simultaneous recording at the retinal and cortical levels in freely moving, unanesthetized animals. We recorded cortical (VEPs) and retinal...
متن کاملMicroglial changes occur without neural cell death in diabetic retinopathy
Very early neuroglial changes have been observed to precede major vascular changes in the retina of diabetic patients and animal models. We investigated the sequence of these neuroglial changes further, in mice with alloxan-induced diabetes. Diabetes was induced by a single injection of Alloxan into C57/Bl6 mice, which subsequently received daily insulin injections. Diabetic and control animals...

survival in elderly patients but enormously enhances the quality of remaining life. How often hypopituitarism is responsible for postural hypotension is unclear, but pointers seen in our patients included low serum thyroxine concentrations without the expected raised thyroid stimulating hormone, hyponatraemia, and disproportionately pale facies. Visual evoked potential and contrast sensitivity ...
